Laodongdang
[Taiwan Labor Party - Laodongdang] by Ivan Sache

The Chinese name of the party is Laodongdang. The party is often referred to in some media as the "Workers' Party" to distinguish it from the "old" Labor Party (Gongdang), which seems to have been reconstituted under as the Taiwan Labor Party (Taiwan Minzhu Gondang; see below)). The party prefers the English title the "Labor Party" as this is a more accurate translation of its Chinese name "Laodongdang".

The official meaning of the colours of the flag is the following:

The red sky symbolizes the resolution to fight against oppression and to try to obtain justice all over the world. The yellow star is the international symbol of the parties fighting for the workers' rights. The green land represents Ilha Formosa, the Beautiful Island of Taiwan.

The Labor Party was established in March 1989 by Luo Mei-wen, one of Taiwan's most popular labour activists . Most of its 3,000 members are former political prisoners, who once belonged to Chinese Communist Party branches, workers and socialist intellectuals. The party's two main principals are socialism and reunification. It has taken part in national elections ever since, but never received enough popular support. It closely co-operates with the Labour Rights Association.

Taiwan Minzhu Gondang

The other Taiwan Labor Party (Taiwan Minzhu Gondang) has a website, all on Chinese, on which something looking like the party flag is shown. The party flag would be a green 3 x 3 matrix with yellow stripes between the matrix cell and a yellow star placed in the central cell
